Creating Journals for Junior
What if, universe forbid, something happened to you before having really had the opportunity to get to know your kids. Or more so, what if they didn’t really get to know you?
I had this same realisation when my son was born and it was during a conversation with a close friend that I was introduced to the concept of, what I have aptly named, “Journals for Junior’.
The concept is simple and yet it really is an exercise in personal development. The idea is to document your experiences and lessons, a biography that, if the unexpected should happen, would be available for your family to enjoy.
I mentioned that it is an exercise in personal development, I find writing a daily journal is incredibly therapeutic. The writing allows me to download the swirling information in my head and provides a sense of calm for the rest of the day.
So, on my desktop sits a folder titled “Journals for Junior”, a series of completely unrelated events, thoughts and experiences all documented in a way that should for any reason I leave this planet early, my children will at least have some sense of their heritage and their father.
There are no hard and fast rules to what you write, but I have tried to write in a way which also reflects my personality. There is even a section in there of my greatest dad jokes. They are, as you can imagine, terrible.
If the unexpected were ever to happen, would those close to you have the means to get to know what you were like or to get those words of wisdom that might help them in a challenging time?
If not, maybe it’s time to start documenting your ‘Journals for Junior’. 🙂
